When I turned 16, the director of the orphanage told me that the state had done everything it could and that I was now old enough to take care of myself. She placed an envelope in front of me and explained that my maternal grandmother had died and left me something. I was surprised. I didn’t even know I had a grandmother. 😨 😨
In the letter, it said that I had been left a small piece of land, a ruined house, and a tiny cave next to the house, with no value at all. The other girls quickly made fun of it. They said to imagine being left a cave.
I never cried. Not when my mother died, not when I was taken to the orphanage, not when they mocked me. I had understood that tears change nothing.
That evening, I gathered everything I had: a few clothes, a notebook, a pencil, and a small dried leaf that I kept as a memory. I didn’t sleep all night. I kept thinking about only one thing: the cave. It sounded like a joke. But at the same time, it was the only place that belonged to me. No matter how damaged or abandoned it was, it was mine. That thought gave me strength.
A few days later, a man came to pick me up from the orphanage to take me there. We crossed the mountains, far from the city, toward a forgotten place. On the way, he told me that my grandmother was a strange and very discreet person. She lived alone, grew plants, and didn’t mix with others.
I looked at the mountains, wondering why she had never come to see me. The journey was long. The path became narrower and narrower, the trees denser. The sounds of the city had long disappeared. At one point, I felt like there was nothing left in the world, only those mountains and silence.
Finally, the car stopped. The man showed me the path ahead.
He told me I had to continue alone.
I got out. The air was cold and pure. A small path led to the house. The house was in worse condition than I had imagined. The roof was half collapsed, the windows broken, the door leaning to one side. But it was mine.
I went inside. There was dust, old objects, silence. But also a strange sense of calm. I started cleaning. First a small corner, then more. I worked all day without stopping. When night fell, I sat down for the first time and looked around. It was no longer completely abandoned.
In the following days, I explored the surroundings. The land didn’t seem completely neglected. In some places, plants were growing as if they had once been cared for. I remembered that she used to grow plants.
One day, I decided to find the cave.
At first, it was hard to spot. Everything was overgrown and hidden. But after a long search, I saw a dark opening, almost completely covered by bushes. I approached. My heart was beating fast, not knowing whether it was from fear or curiosity.
I pushed the branches aside and looked inside. What I saw froze me in place. 😨 You can read the rest in the first comment. 👇👇👇
It was dark. Deep darkness. I stepped inside slowly. The air was cold and damp. Every step echoed.
After a few steps, my eyes adjusted. And that’s when I saw it. On the wall of the cave, there were symbols carved into the stone. I moved closer. They weren’t just random marks.
I studied them for a long time, trying to understand. They seemed to point in a direction. I followed them and went deeper into the cave.
There, in a place where barely any light reached, I noticed something. At first, I didn’t understand what it was. It was a plant.
But not an ordinary plant. It was growing between the rocks, as if in an impossible place. Its leaves were dark green and glossy, and small pale flowers clung to it, visible even in the dim light. I approached carefully. At that moment, I remembered the plants around the house. My grandmother had left nothing to chance.
In the following days, I started searching more. I found old books, notes. And that’s when I discovered the truth. This plant was extremely rare. It was used in medicine… and had very high value.
I sat for a long time in that dark cave, staring at the plant, unable to believe it. Everyone had laughed at me, saying I had been left a cave…
But in reality, I had been left something that could change my entire life.
At that moment, I understood: this was my way to live.
