For several months, strange stories had been spreading through the town. People were disappearing. Not by accident. And not in the streets at night. Everything always began the same way. A rainy evening. Someone knocking at the door.

A young girl lived there alone. She spent all day working in a small café and returned home every evening exhausted and silent. The neighbors said she was far too kind for this world.
That night, the wind was blowing violently.
The girl had just made tea when she heard a slow knock at the door.
Once.
Then a second time.
When she opened the door, she saw them.
The old woman could barely stand, and the old man was completely soaked by the rain.
— Excuse us… whispered the old man. Just for one night…
The girl did not even think about refusing.
— Come in quickly, you’ll freeze outside.
The old couple entered.
The apartment filled with the strange smell of wet clothes and old perfume.
The girl brought them hot soup, dry towels, and even gave them her own bed.
The old woman watched the girl silently for a long time.
With a strange look… as if she were measuring something inside her.
— Do you live alone? she finally asked.
— Yes.
The old man gave a slight smile.
But there was something cold in that smile.
During the night, strange things began to happen.
At first, the girl heard whispers coming from the kitchen.
She thought the old couple were talking to each other.
But when she approached, the voices suddenly stopped.
The girl stood up and walked into the room.
There she saw the old couple sitting motionless in the darkness.

Motionless.
A little later, she noticed something even more terrifying:
In the hallway mirror, only her own reflection appeared.
The old couple had no reflection at all.
A freezing chill ran down the girl’s spine.
She tried to convince herself that she was simply tired.
But then something even worse happened.
In the middle of the night, she woke up to the sound of heavy footsteps.
Her bedroom door was slightly open.
The old woman was standing in the hallway.
She was simply staring at the girl’s room.
Without blinking.
— Is everything okay…? the terrified girl asked.
The old woman slowly smiled.
— You have a very pure heart…
Then she turned around and disappeared into the darkness.
The next morning, the girl decided they had to leave.
But when she entered the living room…
The old couple was gone.
Only wet footprints remained on the floor.
And on the table lay an old yellowed photograph.
The girl picked it up.
The same old couple appeared in the picture.
But the photo had been taken in 1961.
Standing beside them were other people.
Seven people.
The girl froze.
Because she recognized some of the faces.
They were the people who had disappeared over the past few months.
On the back of the photograph, a sentence had been written by hand:
“We always come back for those who open their door to us.”
